Track Of The Week: James Blake 'Make Something Up'

Track of the week this week comes from James Blakes 2026 album release of Trying Times. Though it was a tough decision to single out a favourite, i have landed on track 5 'Make Something Up'. Built on muted drums, warped vocals and rough-edged guitars, Make Something Up feels intentionally a bit all over the place, in a good way, like it’s finding its feet as it goes. It’s James Blake at his most open, pulling things back while also leaning further into that indie-rock sound.
Lyrically, it circles around something pretty simple: what do you do when you don’t have the words? Rather than forcing an answer Blake leans into the spontaneity of making something up in situations you couldn't of prepared for.
