Upcoming Release: Mumford & Sons 'Prizefighter'

After the Albums announcement in October of 2025, this Friday, on the 20th of February Mumford & Sons are set to release their sixth studio album that they've described to be "Serious and Playful, sometimes bruised and always hopeful". Featuring collaborations with Hozier, Chris Stapleton, Gracie Abrams, and Gigi Perez. Prizefighter is delivered as a 14-track LP, co-produced with Aaron Dessner following up from their March 2025 album Rushmere.

The Album Prizefighter Features collaborations such as Hozier, as he appears on the albums first single release of Rubber Band Man in October. The folk-rock track was teased on social media in late September of 2025. The Track is built upon a dream had by non other than Brandy Carlile, American singer and songwriter with eleven Grammys under her belt, Who reached out to Marcus Mumford and in his words she had ' written a poem in her sleep' which became a part of the songs lyrics.

The albums title track Prizefighter was subsequently released as the second single on the 12th December 2025. The Band explained in their Track star interview that the lyrics for this track were "based around a character called Prizefighter, which became an identity throughout the record" it's therefore up for interpretation on the meaning behind this song, that may become clearer as the full track list and the story of Prizefighter is released. Some interpretations include this character being someone who still burns for a former love, whom after a long time is still stuck waiting with his heart broken.

The last single release came with Track Three, The Banjo Song. Released this year on January 9th, Co-written with Aaron Dessner and Jon Bellion. This track sits firmly within the folk sound with a homely and comforting message that I'm sure translates live, as it has been demonstrated through the groups acoustic renditions of the track for social media. As the title suggests, the Banjo is the star of the instrumental as it creates that Folk feel we know and love from the band. As vocal harmonies flood the chorus the banjo remains persistent, however carried alongside the guitar and piano melody.
